On the 16th of May London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel hosted the Gift Awards 2024. This event brought together over 400 guests and brands who had distinguished themselves for innovation, resilience, and creativity. We are delighted to announce that the winner in the category Best Design & Craft Product or Range is the company Beevive Ltd with their DIY Bee Hotel Kit.

The Kit is produced from sustainably sourced poplar plywood by Panguaneta and it is designed to be received per post and easily assembled at home.

The tiny bee hotel will provide a safe space for female solitary bees, who will so have the possibility to build nests within the tubes and lay their eggs there. Since they do not live in colonies, these precious insects visit a large variety of flowers during their life and they are therefore particularly important for pollination, representing the only mean of reproduction for many vegetal species. Because of the use of chemical pesticides, solitary bees have now lost much of their natural habitat and are facing therefore a critical situation. They don’t protect a queen nor reserves of honey: that’s why they don’t represent any danger for pets or children, who will enjoy their flight from flower to flower.

The Bee Hotel Kit is made in the UK from Tutto Pioppo by Panguaneta. The product selected is a 4 mm panel, ideal for laser cutting. The light and uniform colour, together with a stable and resistant core, allows a very precise work and a perfect result, also on the smaller pieces.

This success is the brilliant result of a perfect synergy of values and objectives. Beevive was looking for a sustainably sourced thin panel, easy to machine and at the same time natural and safe. Hanson Plywood, our distribution partner in UK, believed in the project and perfectly understood its noble purpose: a small object for a great goal. The choice of our Tutto Pioppo allowed the best result while adding value to the creative idea of Beevive.
