Parlamentino - Italy

An urban solution fostering dialogue and engagement among young citizens.

Di Qua/di Là is a project developed by Festivaletteratura Mantova, coordinated by Ludosofici and Collettivo LAN-DE-Sì, with the support of the Department for Family Policies under the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. The initiative aimed to create a workshop for the teenagers of the Lunetta neighborhood of Mantua during Festivaletteratura 2024.

The heart of this project is the "Parlamentino," a space dedicated to fostering collaboration and dialogue among young citizens. The "Children’s Parliament" is a dynamic, inclusive, and welcoming environment where young people can gather, share ideas, and learn together.

The Parlamentino features twelve versatile seats designed for children that can be easily transformed into chairs for adults. These multifunctional pieces can also serve as podiums for speaking, tables for drawing, storage containers for essential materials, and lightweight structures that children can transport effortlessly. For longer journeys, two specially designed units serve both as storage for the seats and as flag bearers, turning the Parlamentino into a fully functional institutional space.

The innovative design of the Parlamentino was crafted by the prestigious Studio GISTO, with the creative expertise of Alessandro Mason, Alice Cazzolato, and Alice Fialà. This project was made possible through the technical sponsorship of Panguaneta. For this specific application we have proposed our Ilomba-Superior, a highly versatile and durable material, perfect for coating with decorative finishes. This material is easily shaped into diverse forms, allowing for visually striking designs while ensuring exceptional durability, even in high-use and dynamic environments.

One of the standout elements of the project was its thoughtful exploration of colour. Inspired by secondary hues—purple, green, and orange— a palette of shades was developed to enhance visual appeal, vibrancy, and energy. Custom-designed textures and shades stimulate creativity and evoke the concept of a colour wheel, referencing the circular shape as a symbol of equality and social connection.

We are proud to have contributed to a project that strengthens local connections and promotes social and cultural initiatives that enrich our community. The Parlamentino has become a powerful symbol of participation, inclusivity, and innovation—an inspiring landmark for future generations in Mantua.
