The meeting was focused on the necessity to reconcile environmental and socio-economic needs: the possible reduction of cultivated areas would damage the entire poplar supply chain, whose social, environmental and landscape value should instead be strengthened and preserved. Its CO2 storage, its contribution to soil purification, its tourist-recreational value are some of the advantages of poplar plantations, renewable source and first step of the development of a sustainable short supply chain.
It is therefore necessary to analyse and reframe the details of the “Renaturation of the Po area” project, encouraging the dialogue between economic operators, associations, and institutions to ensure the sustainable development of our territory.
